Abstract

The global change in terms of new economic and ecological requirements needs the application of innovative technologies to protect the environment and safe resources. Classic machine elements in particular have potential for optimization in terms of their service life and reliability, which can be achieved through the integration of sensors for intelligent system monitoring and the development of compact electronic solutions. In the context of digitization and networking in production technology, the term "Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)" has been defined in recent years, which describes the combination of cyber-physical systems such as sensor-integrated machine elements and the digital world. Linking the real and digital worlds is achieved through data collection shortcuts. A practical application is the monitoring of technical systems with the help of condition monitoring systems (CMS). In this context, the focus of this article is on a concept for large diameter bearings and other large components such as gears that are subject to cyclic rolling contact fatigue.
