Bio and Micro tribology

In the Bio- and Microtribology group, physical and chemical principles of action are considered from the nanoscale to the macroscale. For this purpose, biological systems serve as models on the one hand, and on the other hand, findings from microtribology, which are applied to machine elements.

This results in the following focal points:

  • Surface structuring for friction reduction
  • Dry lubricants
  • Adhesive wear processes
  • Use of nanoparticles such as fullerenes or graphenes
  • Innovative lubricants such as ionic liquids
  • Surface analysis
  • Influence of residual stresses (subsurface)
  • Tribofilm formation

The projects, which are covered or accompanied by the group, result from these areas. For the students the lecture Bio- and Microtribology is offered in the main study as a consolidation, which shows the potential in tribology.
