IMKT was present at the 25th Wear of Materials Conference (WOM), held in Sitges, Spain, from April 13 to 17, 2025. This internationally renowned event brought together leading experts from research and industry to discuss the latest developments in research on wear phenomena.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Max Marian co-organized a thematic tutorial session focused on practical aspects of wear analysis. Muyuan Liu presented the results and insights of a collaborative research project, which was conducted together with RWTH Aachen. The full paper entitled "Towards lifetime lubrication of wind turbine gearboxes: Technical and physical investigations on used oils" (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.wear.2025.205760) – as is usual for WOM - was also published in a dedicated special issue in the journal Wear. The study investigates ageing mechanisms of lubricants used in wind turbine gearboxes, based on both field samples and artificially aged oils. A key focus was the potential to extend the service life of used oils through additive top-treatments. The results show that many oils continue to perform satisfactorily even after long-term use—and that targeted additive top-treat presents a promising approach for extending oil life.
