As part of the Master’s course Tribology, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Vasilios Bakolas from Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG as a guest lecturer at IMKT on May 8, 2025. In his lecture, Dr. Bakolas explored the interplay between mechanical engineering, tribological system optimization, and sustainability.
Using current industrial examples, he demonstrated how tribological solutions can make a significant contribution to resource efficiency—through friction reduction, extended service life, or the substitution of critical materials. It became clear that sustainability is not only an environmental objective, but is increasingly driving innovation in product development.
The lecture provided students with valuable insights into industrial practice and encouraged discussion on the role of tribology in the transformation of technical systems. We sincerely thank Dr. Bakolas for his visit and the inspiring contributions.
