Microscale contact simulation of local conditions in the secondary shear yone for dry or wet metal machining

Abstract

The tribological conditions on the cutting tool rake face vary locally, becuase the boundary lubrication and the mixedfilm lubrication occur depending on the normal and tangential stresses. This paper presents a method using a microscale simulationmodel to investigate the local friction behavior in the secondary zone. The friction can be determined by using the specifiednormal stress and the reaction force calculated by the simulation. It is also possible to simulate coolant lubricant via fluid-structure-interaction.
