Modulbeschreibung
Possibilities and potentials of current developments to reduce friction and wear are discussed. This is also done with a view to resource efficiency (Surface micro-texturing).
Biotribology; knee and hip implants are considered as examples. Knowledge is extended to contact conditions of contact lenses and the chewing mechanism. Microtribology; The processes in the microcontact of microsystems are examined. The use of wear-reducing protective coatings is presented. The processes of slider-hard disk contact in hard disk drives are evaluated. Analytical tribology, The investigation methods from analytical tribology are presented. The respective methods are categorized and evaluated for special applications.
After this course students are able to
- distinguish different lubrication problems
- develop own models for contacts based on state of the art lubrication science
- use numerical methods
- have a basic understanding enabling them to analyse and develop solutions for more complicated problems.
