The Institute for Machine Design and Tribology (IMKT) at Leibniz Universität Hannover

The IMKT goes back to the professorship for "hydroelectric machines" established in 1913 at the then Technical University. The focus on machine elements initiated by Prof. Martyrer in 1949 was consistently continued by his successors Ehrlenspiel and Paland and extended to the field of design engineering. With the appointment of Prof. Poll in 1996, tribology was added as an additional focus.
