The IMKT operates a wide range of test facilities and analytical equipment. Specialized test rigs enable the investigation of tribological systems such as rolling bearings, gears and seals under realistic operating conditions. For the characterization of surfaces and materials, methods such as scanning electron microscopy, laser scanning microscopy and tactile roughness measurement are available. These are complemented by thermography, high-speed imaging and fluorescence techniques to capture dynamic processes and failure mechanisms in detail.
